Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi announced on Friday, 27 January 2017, that the department’s road maintenance team has been dispatched to attend to flooded provincial roads.

This comes after the province has experienced heavy rains in the past week, which flooded into storm water drains and left some debris that could make roads not conducive to drive on.
MEC Vadi said: “The departmental team is currently clearing rubbles at the Witkoppen Road bridges including storm water drainages across all provincial roads.”

The department said although no reads have been reported structurally damaged by the heavy rain, a maintenance team is on stand-by to attend to any emergencies that might occur.

“I appeal to motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads as heavy rains are expected to continue throughout the province,” MEC Vadi added.
Furthermore, the department has also urged motorists to avoid roads that are in low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
