Makhura to deliver his final State of the Province Address

Gauteng residents are encouraged to join the Gauteng Provincial Government on Monday, 18 February 2019, as Premier David Makhura delivers the State of the Province Address (SOPA) for the current term of office at the Alberton Civic Centre, Ekurhuleni.   

This is the last SOPA before the end of the term of the fifth administration.

In 2014, Premier Makhura unveiled the programme for Transformation, Modernisation and Reindustrialisation as part of a vision of an integrated and socio-economically inclusive Gauteng City Region.

In his address, Makhura will highlight progress made in the following key priority areas:

  • Inclusive economic growth and employment;
  • Infrastructure development;
  • Quality education;
  • Public Healthcare;
  • Social Development;
  • Opportunities for youth empowerment;
  • Fighting crime and corruption;
  • Clean and accountable governance


The day-long programme will also give an opportunity to Premier Makhura to address the public at the at Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong following his main speech, where he will provide progress report on work done since the beginning of his term in office.

The event will also serve as a cultural programme for the SOPA where the Premier and Members of the Executive Committee (EXCO) will also interact with the public giving them highlights of his speech.
