Gauteng motorists are advised to be extra cautious when approaching the Kliptown Bridge on the N12 near Eldorado Park due to construction work being undertaken on the bridge-head on East Road.
The bridge got damaged last year when a truck hit the beams which left the 60-year-old bridge unstable, and is now being repaired and fully rehabilitated by the department.
“The new concrete beams are being constructed off site and will be installed once they are ready,” MEC Vadi said.
MEC Vadi said that due to overhead construction work, traffic safety measures on the N12 freeway will be instituted during normal working hours.
He also emphasised that motorists coming from Johannesburg driving on the N12 should be vigilant when approaching the bridge, as construction workers are on site during the day.
The contractor is replacing the bridge boards and safety railings that were either stolen or damaged over time and the construction is scheduled to be complete in April this year.
